Digital Education & Piracy

Digital Education & Piracy

India is the second-largest online market in the world with approximately 566 million internet users, our social and personal functioning has changed with the spread of digital culture. In our ongoing fight with the COVID pandemic, the internet has been a constant friend. We are practically using the web everywhere.

After WFH in offices now colleges, institutes and schools in India have started online classes. The #NIOS channel, #DIKSHA, and the #NCERT e-pathshala website and apps are getting updated for school students and teachers. We know the importance of education and can’t let these conditions harm us there. But, the digital format of teaching and studying is new in most parts here. There can be legal and ethical violations in terms of content usage which will harm the original thought process in kids. The hassles and challenges are uncoined but the disruption caused is noticeable amongst aware parents.

Digital is a vast platform and not every piece of information we read or use is credible. Digital pirated content carries a significant risk of malware which may help evil minds in cybercrime. Actions are louder than words so, it’s really crucial to identify the authorized sites to use any information especially when you are teaching. Kids grasp the easy ways real quick but we have to make sure they choose the right ones!

How To Spot A Pirated Content

Pirated content and the websites that sell or share it can look entirely legitimate, but a few simple “tests” will help you spot the fakes, avoid the scams, and dodge the malware.

  • Trust your instincts Check the online seller’s price against the estimated retail value of the software. If a price seems “too good to be true,” it probably is.
  • Make sure it’s authenticBe suspicious of software products that do not include proof of authenticities such as original disks, manuals, licensing, services policies, and warranties.
  • Beware of backups – Avoid sellers offering to make backup copies. This is a clear indication the software is illegal.
  • Ensure secure payment – Make certain that the internet connections you are using are secure.
  • Understand transaction termsGet a clear understanding of the merchant’s policies concerning returns and refunds, shipping costs, and security and privacy protection before you complete the transaction. Most importantly, look for a trust mark from a reputable organization to make sure the online retailer is reliable and has a proven track record of satisfying customers.
  • Do your homework – Before making a purchase, do as much research on the seller and vendor as you can. Check the seller’s rating or feedback comments.
